World of Warships Ship Types Which ship to choose? Beginner's guide

Short guide of tech-trees for beginner to the ship types in World of Warships

Many our customers are beginners in World of Warships, and often we faced with a question “Which ship should I choose?”, “Which one is the best for beginners?”. So, if you are beginner and you also are having difficulties choosing a new ship for boosting - this article is for you.

In this article we will list the tech-trees, and some ships that are convenient for the initial boosting, and briefly go through all tech-trees, to give you an understanding of what to expect from them.

An Overview Of World Of Warships Ships Types

Battleships Ship Types

When it comes to battleships, We recommend to start from Japanese tech-tree with Yamato at the end.

The main task is to endure and get through the two ships: Kawachi and Myogi. Just humble yourself, go through them and then forget it like a nightmare. These are very bad battleships, and they have little in common with the rest of the tech-tree.

Kongo will show some good results, Fuso is just an op ship. (If you don’t like Fuso, We don’t even know what you will like ;) )

Nagato and Amagi ships, have 410mm guns with good ballistics and are quite accurate when firing at long distances. They will do a good job destroying cruisers.

Izumo became better after the recent updates. She doesn't snatch the stars from the sky, but lives well and is quite playable.

Now, about Yamato Ship, we think every man who has ever been fond of ships has heard about her. 460mm main caliber, the largest battleship that was built.

Everyone is afraid of her, including other battleships, because she can penetrate the bow (the only tier X BB that can overmatch other tier X bow armor).

As an alternative to the Japanese tech-tree, Germans can be boosted.

The most armored battleships in the game, the most enduring, but with a weaker caliber than classmates, and less accurate. A sort of battleship for "close combat" battles. For a beginner, they’ll also be great starter, maybe even better than the Japanese.

Cruisers Ship Types

When it comes to cruisers, We also recommend to go along the Japanese tech-tree. These cruisers are extremely standard, a little on the cardboard side, but they have good ballistics and powerful HE (high-explosive) shell damage, good concealment, as well they have long-range torpedoes. Playing them is relatively simple, but they do not have good survival.

Kuma is a good representative of the class, good HE shell damage for her level, but she has very poor survivability, VERY.

Furutaka - Teaches a different style of gameplay, with her 203mm heavy guns, at first it will be unusual and for a tier V–abit redundant, but then it will be easier.

Aoba, is the same as Furutaka, but better in everything.

Myoko is an excellent representative of the Japanese tech-tree (lots of guns, strong HE shells), up to and including tier IX - it will improve in terms of performance, with approximately the same gameplay.

Zao - you will love her for her excellent ballistics and damage from HE shells.

If you feel that you are dying too often, you can try to go along the German branch, starting from the tier VII and further - this is the most tough cruisers branch in the game.

Destroyers Ship Types

Of the destroyers, We recommend starting with the Japanese too, going to Shimakaze. They are standard destroyers with good speed, the best camouflage in the game, and with excellent torpedoes, but with a weak main caliber armaments.

Although Isokaze was nerfed at one time, she is still quite a dangerous ship.

6th and 7th level, quite good representatives, but they don't snatch the stars from the sky

Kagero is practically the best torpedo destroyer of its level.

Yugumo, the same Kagero, but with an excellent main caliber.

Shimakaze - you will love her, 15 powerful torpedoes per salvo, and it's impossible to love 40 knots of speed on a ship.

If you want to shoot more with the main guns more often, you can go along the American branch, she is more conspicuous, with weaker torpedoes, but the main caliber is faster and more dangerous when fighting other destroyers, all other things being equal. There is also a tech-tree branch of Japanese destroyers with a main caliber focus - to Harugumo. A good branch, but for a newbie, forgive us old-timers, We would still advise to go to the Shimakaze.

Aircraft carriers Ship Types

There are three tech-trees of aircraft carriers: Americans, Japanese and British.

We don’t think that a beginner should start with them, but if you want to try aircraft carriers to see how they play, it would be best to start with the Americans, get the Lexington at least, and there you will understand.

At the moment, tier 8 and 10 of Americans are the most powerful aircraft carriers. Then the Japanese, and the British are probably the weakest for now. Everything changes very quickly and information can become outdated.

After choosing a tech-tree, We recommend reading guides for the classes themselves. You can read about each tech-tree in the next article.
